Mobile Vikings allows you to make free phone calls using wifi

As you can see from the banner on the right, I am a Mobile Viking - and proud to be! Two months ago I transferred my number from Mobistar to Mobile Vikings and ever since I've been calling and sending free text messages for only 15 euro per month. Of course, this is what the average provider is offering you, but with Mobile Vikings I'm surfing the web completely free. No little than 2 (two) Gb are included in the 15 euros!! This matches Mobile Vikings philosophy of providing free mobile internet everywhere.

As if this was not enough, Mobile Vikings will be launching an app for voip-calling. This means that you'll call for absolutely nothing using the wifi networks around you. Of course, there's a one-time fee for the app. From October 1, 2010, Mobile Vikings will start testing the system in Belgian Ghent after some of the city's students proposed the idea to Mobile Vikings' CEO Frank Bekkers. If all goes well, every Mobile Vikings will be able to download the app as soon as early 2011. Later, Bekkers plans to install hotspots everywhere in Belgium - in bars, restaurants, public places,... Each Mobile Viking will call for free at those hotspots.

Mobile Vikings will be working together with Cherry (Mondial Telecom) who is already providing voip-calling. The Cherry app is so great because it allows for seamless handover. This means that as soon as you leave the wifi hotspot the operator's mobile network takes over. This is what Cherry - and soon - Mobile Vikings will distinguish from Skype.
