American banks show ads during online banking

If you're using Facebook or Gmail, you're already used to it: ads in the sidebar that are based on the contents of your e-mails, wall posts or likes. Now, the American company Cardlytics has gone a step further by creating software to show ads during online banking.
The content of the advertisements is based on your spending habits - at least those for which you use your card. If you like fastfood, you'll probably be seeing alot of McDonalds commercials.

Some small American banks are already using the system and are earning some extra dimes. It is estimated that already more than 10 million Americans are exposed to this kind of advertising. Users have the option to hide the ads, but only 2 percent chose to do so.
